In tourism and local food production, people living on Hornby Island and northern Vancouver Island, will now witness an increase through a series of development grants for rural areas.

Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation said that jobs and financial opportunities thrive in communities that have the tools they require to adapt and develop. With the assistance of the development grants for the rural and their StrongerBC Economic Plan, they are providing rural communities with greater number of resources to draw visitors and build up significant infrastructure to create a better and improved sustainable economy for all British Columbians.

Supported by the StrongerBC Economic Plan, the B.C. government is all set to boost tourism and infrastructure with the help of $2.5 million grants for Indigenous organizations and local governments, comprising the ones impacted by the growing impacts of the pandemic, fires, floods, and extreme weather conditions.

Roly Russell, Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development, said that North Island’s rural communities are working day and night to develop and branch out their local economies, at the same time supporting people they serve. Roly added that he is grateful that they are supporting locally grown projects all over their provinces, helping the communities to attain their personal visions of sustainable and resilient success.

One project that shows the community sustainability is the Hornby Island Farmland Trust Society’s food-processing facility.
