Diehl Gallery will host its annual salon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday to celebrate its artists juried into Western Visions, part of its 2022 Fall Arts Festival offerings.
It’s not a salon where haircuts happen, but rather one where art is shown and drinks are served.
“There’ll be mimosas, bloody marys and light food,” said Devin Hardy, director of Diehl Gallery for the past two years.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced the gallery to rethink the show and party for its artists who also participate in the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s prestigious show and sale.
“We had to do it differently for the pandemic,” she said. “Now it is finally back.”
Western Visions opens Saturday at the wildlife museum for viewing and continues 5-8 p.m. Sept. 15 for the auction of some 170 works.
For the salon, Diehl Gallery will show works by Claire Brewster, Helen Durant, Sarah Hillock, KOLLABS, Les Thomas, Gwynn Murrill and JenMarie Zeleznak.
The salon will share the space the gallery’s 2022 Fall Art Festival featured artist, photographer Jonathan Smith, whose work captures cold ice and blue water in the Arctic, which seem almost impossible to be real.
“These gorgeous minimalist landscape photographs toe the line between abstraction and representation and feel as painterly as they do photographic,” Hardy said.
The gallery will host a reception for Smith 5-7 p.m. Friday as part of the annual Palates and Palettes gallery walk. There will be food from Hatch Taqueria and Tequilas, drinks, and a visit from the photographer.
This is the 35th year for the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s Western Visions show and sale.
“The caliber of art on offer this year is truly amazing — we are celebrating 35 years with a bang,” National Museum of Wildlife Art Director Steve Seamons said in a release about its show.
Diehl Gallery has over the years represented dozens of artists who have been juried into Western Visions, and its salon is a chance to peek at a few more pieces by Western Visions artists.
Live auction bidding can be done in person or online. For information go to WildlifeArt.org.
This version of the article has been edited to clarify that the Diehl salon is not officially associated with the Western Visions show, which has been hosted for decades by the National Museum of Wildlife Art. — Ed.
