The Le Sueur County Historical Society Art History Series culminates with a free educational program on world-famous artist David Maass on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Elysian Tourism Center on Hwy. 60 in Elysian, MN.
Don’t miss this chance to learn about former Le Sueur County resident David Maass, one of the country’s most important wildlife artists whose art has inspired many and contributed untold millions of dollars to state and federal wildlife conservation efforts. The event includes a slideshow that chronicles Maass’ life from his early days as Art Director at Jostens and highlights accomplishments from his 50 year career as a world-class artist.
Born in 1929, Maass is known for works that are graced with the eye of a graphic designer, as exemplified in his two federal duck stamps: 1974–75 for two wood ducks in flight and 1982–83 for three canvasbacks stroking powerfully over windblown waters. He’s also painted a total of 38 state and conservation stamps for organizations including Pheasants Forever, National Wild Turkey Federation, and Ruffed Grouse Society. But Maass considers being named Ducks Unlimited’s Artist of the Year a record-breaking five times his greatest personal achievement.
Data included is taken from the Minnesota Department of Health Daily reports. Because all data is preliminary, the change in number of cumulative positive cases and deaths from one day to the next may not equal the newly reported cases or deaths.
