BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WV News) — Officials with the Cultural Foundation of Harrison County said they’re excited to feature the soulful music of Lady D and the visual and ceramic art of Hannah Lenhart at the next Artist After Hours.

The visual and ceramic art of Hannah Lenhart will be featured at the next Cultural Foundation of Harrison County Artist After Hours event.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Benedum Civic Center in Bridgeport.
The event is free, made possible by funding from the Bridgeport Arts & Heritage Foundation, officials said.
Known as West Virginia’s First Lady of Soul, Lady D has known since the age of 3 that all she wanted to do was sing. Over her career, she has recorded numerous albums and has performed up and down the eastern seaboard and with notable artists such as blues great Johnny Rawls and renowned blues organist Bruce Katz.
Lady D was invited to perform at the Obama for Change Inaugural Ball in Washington in January 2009 after her original song “Go Higher” was chosen as the Best Inaugural Song for President Barack Obama.
Lady D also authored a book of poetry entitled “Appalachian BluesSpeak.”
Hannah Lenhart is a ceramic artist working and living in North Central West Virginia. A graduate of Fairmont State University, Lenhart’s work focuses on creating functional and sculptural vessels that help make life’s little rituals a little more special, officials said.
Through the hustle and bustle of daily living, it is Lenhart’s hope that her work can create a moment of pause and act as a reminder to take a breather.
Established in 1972, the mission of The Cultural Foundation of Harrison County is to foster an art-rich environment, and to encourage the development and appreciation of all art forms, while promoting the growth and expansion of artistic, cultural, and economic development.
