Community members came out to celebrate this year’s Art on Main projects, as local artists were invited to the Chamber of Commerce to talk about their work.
Art on Main is supported through a collaboration with the village’s Create Waunakee Committee, Endres Manufacturing Company and the Chamber of Commerce, who help fund the materials and the selected artists commission. Springfield Welding helps to prime the steel canvases produced by Endres Manufacturing.
This year, Endres Manufacturing Company created planters for the artists to work on. The handles represent the bridges at Waunakee’s Village Park. The planters will be on display at the Waunakee Depot, where the Chamber of Commerce office is located, throughout the summer then auctioned off with proceeds split between the Endres Manufacturing Foundation and the Create Waunakee Committee.
This year, a new online auction process will take place, and bids will be taken through Wauktoberfest weekend in Sept. 18.
This year’s Art on Main artists are Becca Kornstedt (from left), Kayla Proctor, Don Spencer, Michelle Butcher, Katherine Ikaunieks, John Olthafer and Abby Wilson. Not shown are Micaela Horning, Katie Pinzon, and Todd Miller.
Waunakee art teacher Kayla Proctor describes her piece, which incorporates ceramics. She also included a bit of cushion for the handle where the Village Park bridges are represented.
Becca Kornstedt shows her work to those gathered at the Art on Main party June 30.
Village Administrator Todd Schmidt, at left, with artist Don Spencer, admire the different creations at the depot boardwalk. Schmidt was the emcee during the event.
