The Art Association of Jackson Hole will present the first of its two annual summer art fairs Friday through Sunday on the Center for the Arts lawn.
Art Fair Jackson Hole is a quintessential Teton summer event, featuring professional local and national artists showing all sorts of fine art and crafts, including ceramics, paintings, furniture, photography and much more. Artists and exhibitors are selected through a “blind” process in which jurors evaluate images of the artists’ work using specific criteria without knowing their identity.
“This is the first time we have brought the full Art Fair Jackson Hole experience home to the Center for the Arts Park,” said Anika Youcha, director of communications for the Art Association of Jackson Hole.
“It has been a longtime dream of the Art Association to be able to hold it here, and compared to our past small pop-up and Takin’ it to the Streets art fairs, Art Fair Jackson Hole brings in a definite wider variety and larger number of artists and their creations,” Youcha said.
“We are so fortunate to be able to put this on year after year, to not only support the artists and our organization, but to bring national artists to the Jackson stage and introduce viewers to art they may never otherwise have the opportunity to see,” she added.
For the most part, only a few participating artists have connections to the Art Association, “but local artists’ applications do carry a heavier weight, in hopes to nurture and support artists living and working here in Jackson and beyond,” she said.
Teton favorites returning will include Fred Kingwill, Laurie Thal and Annie Band, who all have new work to present. Lillie Lauterbach of Jackson Hole Beadwork and Jill Vatter of Teton Beadworks will also be present, sharing their intricate designs.
“I personally am excited about Amado Peña, a Mestizo artist of Mexican and Yaqui ancestry who will be at the Art Fair sharing his art for the first time,” Youcha said. “His work is a tribute to the Native Americans who survive by living in harmony with an adversarial, untamed environment.”
Visitors will also find plenty of food to sample, including Catherine Jaeger’s charcuterie boards, mousse desserts, calico meatballs and assorted salads. Jackson Hole Stillworks will serve its classic sloshies, and Street Tacos will be on hand Friday and Saturday for delicious taco fare.
The fair will run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Admission costs $10 for a weekend pass or $5 for a single day. Children 12 and younger can attend for free.
